Nalanda University has been recognised and inscribed by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage
Nalanda University has been recognised as a World Cultural Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The announcement was made in Istanbul, Turkey, informed Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar. "I am very happy about this. The committee of 21 countries has voted in favour of Nalanda University unanimously," said Javadekar.
Nalanda, an ancient centre of higher learning in Bihar in the 5th Century, was reopened on 1 September, 2014.
At present, the university has the following schools:
- School Of Historical Studies.
- School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions School Of Historical Studies.
- School of Ecology & Environment studies.
