Mahindra KUV100 Key Facts, Price and Review

  • Mahindra enters the compact SUV segment with the launch of the KUV100 which carries a starting price of Rs 4.42 lakh.
  • Mahindra KUV100 to battle it out with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo, Maruti Swift, Honda Brio and the Chevrolet Beat. Expect this to be Mahindra’s cheapest passenger car yet.
  • The KUV100 will be available in seven colours - fiery orange, flamboyant red, dazzling silver, aquamarine, pearl white, designer grey and midnight black. Variants are called K2, K2+, K4, K4+, K6, K6+ and K8, and it is the plus variants that will get the airbag.

In terms of looks, the KUV100 looks like a younger sibling of the popular XUV500. The creases on the bonnet are identical to what we have seen on the latest iteration of the larger SUV. The predator grille flaunts the design language of the new generation of Mahindra cars.

Aside from the design, the highlight of the Mahindra KUV100 is the introduction of a new series of engines. Unlike the other Mahindra cars, the KUV100 will be offered in petrol as well as a diesel engine option. Powering the KUV100 are 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and diesel mill that churn out 83PS and 78PS respectively. Torque ratings for both these engines stand at 115Nm and 190Nm respectively.

The KUV100 is the second offering from Mahindra that uses a monocoque construction. It’s an important application, especially when targeting the small cars segment. While monocoque constructions may not have the rugged abilities of the ladder construction, being lighter makes the vehicle benefit from better fuel efficiency. Also, monocoque constructions sport superior ride due to the structural rigidity offered.

In terms of safety the Mahindra KUV100 comes with ABS as standard across all its variants while two airbags will be offered as optional extras. With the KUV100, Mahindra aims to target the Ford EcoSport as well as some of the premium hatchbacks in the country.
